We are proud to announce our Under Construction Play Development Series 2026, THE GREAT CLEANSE, a new devised theatrical work centering on the power of women in the current world. The project will explore agency, gender, resistance, and social dynamics through a bold, collaborative process (created by Andrew Hobgood of Cap n’ Glasses) rooted in lived experience and rigorous artistic inquiry. The process will culminate in a FREE public reading on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 7:30pm in the Studio Theatre of the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, MIlwaukee, Wisconsin.

THE GREAT CLEANSE is a darkly comic apocalyptic ensemble play set by a tourist cave where a group of mothers chaperoning a school field trip must decide—quickly—whether the caves can keep them safe from an alien invasion. As supplies are gathered and power dynamics emerge, survival planning collides with belief systems, motherhood, control, and long-buried resentments. Beneath the earth, stripped of modern comforts, the women confront who gets to lead, who gets protected, and what it really means to start over.

The Under Construction Series is our ongoing commitment to developing new work in public—inviting audiences into the process before a piece is produced. The 2026 project brings together an ensemble of Milwaukee artists to interrogate what the world looks like now: who it serves, who it leaves out, and what it demands of us in a rapidly shifting cultural landscape.

The piece is led by Head Writer Amber Regan, and is directed by Rebekah Farr. Andrew Hobgood will serve as project mentor.

The creative ensemble includes Liz Ehrler, Kellie Wambold, Nicole McCarty, Emily Harris, Libby LaDue, and Kendra Krouth whose collective voices and perspectives will shape the material throughout the development process.

In keeping with The Constructivists’ commitment to ethical, artist-centered practices, the project includes Intimacy Consultant Laura Sturm and Violence Consultant Nicole Magnusson, ensuring that difficult material is created with care, consent, and clarity. Jaimelyn Gray heads the project as Artistic Producer.
