This is going to be one hell of a free event. For the third year, we’re continuing our Under Construction Play Development Series with a reading of GARAGE PLAY, by BRITTANY CURRAN on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 7pm in the Studio Theatre of the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, Milwaukee.
AND NOT ONLY THAT! The reading will be followed by our 2022-23 SEASON FIVE ANNOUNCEMENT. You can attend the event in-person, but we’ll also live stream it on our social media channels.

Under Construction pairs playwrights with directors and actors for a process that brings into the theatre landscape new works that go for the gut, make you question who you are, and embrace new and diverse perspectives. Additionally, we have an extra emphasis to introduce more female playwrights and playwrights of color into the dark comedy and drama genre dominated by white male playwrights. The series culminates in a live reading for the chosen play.
In GARAGE PLAY by Brittany Curran, Alex comes home on a Friday night to find Dev, a complete stranger, in their garage. Over the course of the weekend they learn more about each other and both of their lives are changed forever. (Content Warning: Adult Language, Sex, and Suicide). The reading will be directed by Artistic Director Jaimelyn Gray (she/her), and will feature Constructivists Associate Artist LIZ EHRLER (she/her) (Dev) and EKENE IKEGWUANI (they/them) (Alex), with stage directions read by Associate Artist REBEKAH FARR (she/her).
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Brittany Curran (“B”) (any/all) is a professional actor, director, teaching artist, playwright, and 500-hour certified yoga teacher. They hold a BFA in Acting and a Minor in Creative Writing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where they also worked as a TA for the Peck School of the Arts' Theatre Department for many years. B has previously worked with companies including Kohl’s Wild Theater, Summit Players, Bard and Bourbon, Theater RED, Milwaukee Youth Theatre, Renaissance Theaterworks, Milwaukee Metropolitan Voices, First Stage, Milwaukee Rep, and Optimist Theatre.
