THE CONSTRUCTIVISTS TO CONTINUE UNDER CONSTRUCTION SERIES AND WILL ANNOUNCE 2022-23 SEASON ON MAY 23RD

Monday, May 2, 2022 – (Milwaukee) The Constructivists are pleased to announce they will bring their Under Construction Play Development Series back as they present a reading of GARAGE PLAY, by BRITTANY CURRAN on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 7pm in the Studio Theatre of the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, Milwaukee. Immediately following the reading, Artistic Director JAIMELYN GRAY will present The Constructivists’ 2022-23 Season. It is a free event by registering through The Constructivists website and will be in-person and streamed on their social media channels.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION PLAY DEVELOPMENT SERIES

For their third year of the Under Construction Play Development Series, The Constructivists have chosen “Garage Play” by local playwright Brittany Curran. Under Construction pairs playwrights with directors and actors for a process that brings into the theatre landscape new works that go for the gut, make you question who you are, and embrace new and diverse perspectives. Additionally, there is an extra emphasis to introduce more female playwrights and playwrights of color into the dark comedy and drama genre dominated by white male playwrights. The series culminates in a live reading for the chosen play.

In “Garage Play,” Alex comes home on a Friday night to find Dev, a complete stranger, in their garage.  Over the course of the weekend they learn more about each other and both of their lives are changed forever. (Content Warning: Adult Language, Sex, and Suicide). The reading will be directed by Artistic Director Jaimelyn Gray (she/her), and will feature Constructivists Associate Artist LIZ EHRLER (she/her) (Dev) and EKENE IKEGWUANI (they/them) (Alex), with stage directions read by Associate Artist REBEKAH FARR (she/her).
