THE CONSTRUCTIVISTS ANNOUNCE THEIR VIRTUALLY AMBITIOUS THIRD SEASON

July 22, 2020 – (Milwaukee) The Constructivists, producing edgy and thought-provoking live theatre since 2017, will first offer the biting dark comedy Women Laughing Alone With Salad by award-winning playwright Sheila Callaghan, which takes a brutally honest look at feminism today. The Constructivists will then return to their play development series Under Construction and will also host a play reading/fundraiser that focuses on the work of the Milwaukee Artists of the Black, Indigenous and Persons of Color (BIPOC) communities. Finally, audiences can look forward to the remount of the 2020 smash hit The Nether by Jennifer Haley, whose popular run was cut short by the pandemic. Events will be in a virtual format for the remainder of the health crisis. Tickets are available online at www.theconstructivists.org or by calling 414-858-6874.

Women Laughing Alone with Salad, By Sheila Callaghan (September 23-27, 2020).

Directed by Jaimelyn Gray, this virtual theatre adventure is a story inspired by the strangely ubiquitous advertising trend of picturing attractive women blissfully eating salad. This raw comedy breaks all the rules of our image-obsessed culture through audacious imagery, biting social critique and devastating humor.

Under Construction Play Development Series (Winter 2020/21 - specific dates to be announced). Local playwrights submit their work from which one play is chosen, culminating in a live-streamed virtual reading. Under Construction is designed to provide a local playwright the opportunity to work with professionals in taking their writing process to its next level.

Virtual Play Reading/Fundraiser (Winter 2020/21 - specific dates to be announced). This event will feature a contemporary BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color) playwright whose work resonates with The Constructivists' mission statement as part of the ongoing work of supporting BIPOC voices in the theatre and in Milwaukee. In line with this important work, the proceeds from this event will be donated to a local nonprofit organization of the production team's choice.

The Nether by Jennifer Haley (April 10-24, 2021 - venue to be announced). Directed by Jaimelyn Gray, the Constructivists bring back their most successful production to date, which was cut short due to the coronavirus. Returning to their respective roles will be Robert W.C. Kennedy (Bialystock & Bloom, Next Act), Maya Danks (Mad Rogues, Voices Found Repertory), Jaime Jastrab (Boulevard Theatre, Acacia Theatre Company), Matthew Scales (Lake Country Playhouse, All in Productions), and Rebekah Farr (Shakespeare in the Park, Mad Rogues). Popular playwright Jennifer Haley blurs reality into a virtual realm known as “The Nether." This new form of the internet has been created and allows participants to indulge in their deepest longings. Detective Morris (Maya Danks) interrogates members of a realm known as “The Hideaway,” digging into the emotional consequences of allowing even the imagination to entertain its darkest desires.

"[THE NETHER is] Philip K. Dick's A MAZE OF DEATH by way of the HBO incarnation of Michael Crichton's WESTWORLD in the unflinching intimacy of 53212 Presents…IMPRESSIVE…emotionally intricate…LOVED THIS SHOW…” –Russ Bickerstaff, The Shepherd Express
